How to Care for Premium Activewear So It Stays Beautiful for Years

Quality activewear is an investment. Whether it’s your favorite yoga jumpsuit, sports bra, leggings, or a skirt with built-in shorts, proper care plays a key role in how long it maintains its shape, elasticity, color, and performance features.

Many women spend time choosing high-quality activewear, but few realize that improper washing is one of the most common reasons sportswear loses its quality over time. The good news is that by following a few simple rules, your favorite pieces can stay beautiful and functional for much longer.

The Biggest Enemy of Activewear? Excessive Heat

Modern activewear is most commonly made from blends of nylon, elastane, or polyester. These fabrics are specifically designed to wick away moisture, dry quickly, and move comfortably with your body.

That is exactly why they do not need high washing temperatures.

Experts generally recommend washing activewear at 30°C (86°F). This temperature is sufficient to remove everyday dirt while helping preserve the elasticity of the fibers, maintain vibrant colors, and protect the fabric’s technical performance. As an added benefit, lower-temperature washing is gentler on the environment and can reduce energy consumption.

Turn Your Clothes Inside Out

It may seem like a small detail, but it makes a noticeable difference.

Sweat, bacteria, and traces of skincare products are most likely to accumulate on the inside of your clothing. Turning garments inside out before washing allows detergent to reach the areas that need cleaning most while protecting the outer surface from unnecessary friction and wear.

We especially recommend this step for sports bras, leggings, jumpsuits, and pleated athletic skirts.

Less Fabric Softener = Longer Lifespan

Many women love the scent of freshly washed clothes. However, when it comes to activewear, fabric softener can often do more harm than good.

Performance fabrics work because of their unique fiber structure, which helps transport moisture away from the body. Fabric softener coats these fibers and gradually reduces their ability to wick away sweat effectively. The result can be less breathable clothing and a less comfortable experience during exercise.

If you want your activewear to perform as it was designed to, it is best to skip the fabric softener.

How Often Should You Wash Activewear?

The answer depends on the type and intensity of the activity.

If you've completed an intense workout, hot yoga session, or any activity that causes significant sweating, activewear should generally be washed after every use. Sports bras, in particular, come into direct contact with the skin and absorb moisture throughout the workout.

For lower-intensity activities such as gentle yoga, stretching, or walking, it may sometimes be enough to air the garment thoroughly and wash it after two or three wears.

The best indicator is always the garment itself. If it feels damp, smells of sweat, or has lost its freshness, it is time for a wash.

Tumble Dryer? Use With Caution

If you want elastane to retain its stretch and flexibility for as long as possible, air drying is usually the best option.

High temperatures inside a tumble dryer can gradually weaken elastic fibers and shorten the lifespan of activewear. For this reason, we recommend drying garments naturally by laying them flat or hanging them in a shaded area away from direct sunlight.
